Nine-week evaluation with breastfeeding mothers and lactation consultants builds on Luna's original 2019 research. 5 out of 6 mothers got More Milk in Less Time®.
ASHEVILLE, N.C., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Motif Medical, a company dedicated to providing expecting, breastfeeding and pumping mothers with access to insurance-eligible essentials, today announced new findings from a clinical evaluation of the Motif Luna® breast pump. The new study builds on research an independent third-party laboratory first conducted in 2019. It expands on the measures examined in that original study and adds new data on how Luna performs for today's moms.

The evaluation looked at Luna's performance on milk output, pumping efficiency, comfort and breast drainage. The results reinforce Luna's More Milk in Less Time® positioning:
- 5 out of 6 mothers achieved More Milk in Less Time® after six weeks of using the Luna.
- 86% found the Luna more comfortable than their previous pump.
- 88% found the Luna quieter than leading breast pump brands.
- 100% of participating IBCLCs reported satisfaction with the Luna's drainage efficiency.
"Our original Luna study gave us a strong foundation. As moms' needs have changed, we wanted to build on it with new data and real-world feedback," said Brandon Fonville, Director at Motif Medical. "This research confirms what we saw in our earlier study, and it let us hear directly from the moms who rely on Luna every day. Their feedback, along with input from lactation professionals, shapes how we keep improving."
The nine-week study included 62 breastfeeding mothers and 3 practicing International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs). All of the mothers had used one or more leading breast pump brands before, so they could compare Luna with pumps they already knew well. They filled out surveys at weeks three, six and nine. The surveys covered comfort, suction, noise, output, cycle speed settings, flange fit and their overall pumping experience. Throughout the study, the IBCLCs observed pumping efficiency and breast drainage.
Some of the strongest findings came from the lactation professionals. Every participating IBCLC said they were satisfied with Luna's drainage efficiency and saw adequate breast drainage after pumping sessions. The study also found that two-thirds of the mothers expressed the most milk on Luna's 50 and 54 cycles-per-minute (CPM) settings. Motif added those settings to give moms more flexibility in how they pump. IBCLCs also noted that faster cycle speeds can make pumping sessions shorter.
"These 50 and 54 CPM settings are essential. I find that most people respond to the pump best in these settings," said Katie, IBCLC, who took part in the study.
The full findings, including the study methodology, participant feedback and IBCLC observations, are in the Motif Luna Clinical Evidence & Performance White Paper, available at https://motifmedical.com/more-milk-less-time.
