  • Hankook Tire's Gauge Index analyzes driver behaviors and purchase intent.

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- With less than three months left in 2025, new survey data indicates that over half (54%) of American drivers are planning to purchase tires before the end of the year. According to the latest Hankook Tire Gauge Index this intent to replace tires comes alongside consumers' interest in maximizing value amid economic pressure. The survey finds they also favor American-made products, and prioritize preparedness for changing road conditions, forecasting what may be a busy season for the tire industry.

Most Drivers are Planning Tire Purchases

With 54% of surveyed drivers planning to buy new tires in the coming months, male drivers appear to be leading this anticipated purchasing wave. The Gauge found that 64% of men surveyed plan to purchase new tires, while nearly four in ten women (38%) indicate they'll replace their tires only when absolutely needed.

Catching a Deal

Amid the anticipated surge in tire shopping activity, drivers are cost-conscious and looking for the best deal. The appeal of tire rebate programs is growing, with 35% of drivers having purchased tires during a rebate program, and more than 60% saying they would consider such programs in the future to help manage costs. Generational data suggests younger drivers are particularly likely to jump on a deal: Gen Z and Millennial drivers are more likely to replace their tires when a sale or rebate is available, compared to Gen X and Boomers (12% vs. 7%).

Drivers are Preparing for Any Condition

Seasonal readiness and local climate considerations are also driving purchase decisions. Across the country, nearly two-thirds (63%) of respondents plan to purchase all-season tires, followed by a quarter (25%) of drivers who are opting for all-weather offerings like the Weatherflex GT, built to withstand challenging climates and help save drivers a seasonal tire swap. Volatile weather seasons see Midwest drivers as the most likely to choose all-season tires (69%), while Southern residents have the highest preference for all-weather products (28%).

The Hankook Gauge Index is a survey of Americans' attitudes and opinions about driving. The latest survey, conducted August 14 through August 19, polled 1,100 randomly selected Americans aged 18 and older.
